10 Great Guitar Bands in 2018
Love Guitar? Love New Music? We do too. We've combined these to give you some the best Guitar band albums coming out recently. The year is far from over, but we hope you dig the list as much as we do.
Mourn
Mourn is a great band out of Spain. They are on Captured Tracks
and have a very great explosive sound. It can get pretty aggressive, but comforting at the same time (if that makes any sense).
We were hooked after their S/T Debut back in 2015. I guess they had a little trouble with their Music labels for a little while, but we're glad to hear they're still pushing through all that and releasing great tunes.
'Fun At The Geysers'
is one of the singles off their new album, Sopresa Familia, released in June 2018. You can check out their album
here on Bandcamp.
Chastity Belt
Chastity Belt from Walla Walla, WA is on Hardly Art Record Label. Their newest album, I Used To Spend So Much Time Alone, was actually released last year. Great pop vibe mixed in with a little shoegaze sound. The way they structure the guitars with the drums and bass are pretty unique.
Definitely some great driving music, going somewhere far. If you wanna hear more, you can go check out a few more available songs from this album as well as their discography on bandcamp
here.
Sunflower Bean
Sunflower Bean is a fairly new band out of Brooklyn, NY on Mom + Pop Records. Their debut Album Human Ceremony was a huge hit with alot of heavy fuzz, rock n roll sounds.
Their newest album, Twentytwo in Blue, came out earlier this year and it showcased their other various styles and genre interests and meshed it together amazingly.
Real Estate
Real Estate from Ridgewood, NJ now in Brooklyn, NY is on Domino Recording Company. They have been around for a little over 10 years now. Matt Mondanile from the band, Ducktails, used to play for them until 2016. They're definitely a much more relaxed shoegaze-ish style.
The song 'Darling'
is off their newest album, In Mind, which released in 2017. This album sounds alot clearer compared to their other albums with their guitars much more defined without drowning in reverb.
Snail Mail
Snail Mail out of Baltimore, Maryland, is actually a solo project from Lindsey Jordan. Now signed to Matador Records, we just caught on to them recently off their new album, Lush, which was just released in June 2018.
It kinda has a
Waxahatchee feel to it, which makes sense that they supported them for a period in 2017. Pretty relaxed vibe. You can check out more from them on their
website.
Parquet Courts
Parquet Courts from NYC, is on Rough Trade. They started off with a Prog-rock turned old punk sound which was fairly heavy and are starting to branch out to other genres, which is fantastic and works really well with their style.
Their single 'Wide Awake'
is their title track off their new album, Wide Awake, released May 2018. They definitely went funky on this track and we're digging it.
Courtney Barnett
From Melbourne, Australia, Courtney Barnett founded her own label - Milk! Records. Catching onto her before her debut release, Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit
back in 2015, she has built a name for herself very rapidly.
She has a very story-telling feel to her lyrics, meshed with some great guitar overdrive sounds. We also did a guitar pedalboard breakdown article, which you can read
here.
'City Looks Pretty'
off her new album,
Tell Me How You Really Feel,
sounds like a cleaned up sound compared to her first album although the overdriven guitars are clearly there. Her songs almost have a kind of psychedelic vibe. You can check out the rest of her album on Bandcamp
here.
Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever
Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever is also from Melbourne, Australia. They've been around since 2013, but their newest album now on Sub Pop, Hope Downs, is catching major buzz.
Their Janky-guitar style is great. They have a kind of Joy Division
meets pop rock style. You can check out their entire album on bandcamp
here.
King Tuff
Now on Sub Pop, King Tuff has been around for a little over 10 years. We've been listening to his albums back on Burger Records
for a while now and they are all excellent. Most of his prior music was heavy, but recently he's begun to branch out toward other genres.
'Thru The Cracks'
is a single off his new 4th studio album, The Other, released in April 2018. This track has a very classic folk vibe, and the vocalists' distinct-unique vocal style shines right through. You can listen to the rest of the album on bandcamp
here.
La Luz
La Luz from Seattle, WA is on Hardly Art Records. They've been around since 2012 and have quite a large following. Their surf-style is very nostalgic with their classic guitar tones and feel.
'Mean Dream' is a single off their new album, Floating Features, released in May 2018. Very dreamy solid album. If you haven't heard of them before we suggest you check them out. You can hear a few more off their new album on their bandcamp
here.
We love everything on this list, but if you have any you would add we would like to hear about it. We are big fans of music and always looking for new music.
